Cruz Macdonald Crowned WA State Champion

Geraldton’s own Cruz Macdonald has claimed the Under-16 Boys title at the WA State Championships, delivering one of the standout performances of the event.

In a thrilling final, Cruz posted a 9.33 and a 7.83 for a combined heat total of 17.16 out of 20 — the highest of the weekend, edging out Ace Flynn (Cowaramup), Zenn Hammond (Gracetown) and Jahli Clarke (Cowaramup).

“That was my best heat of the comp,” Cruz said. “Ace and I were just going wave for wave, it was such a fun final.”

Cruz will now head to the Australian Junior Surfing Titles in November, to be held in South Australia’s Fleurieu Peninsula. This prestigious event brings together the nation’s top young surfers, with winners of the U16 and U18 divisions securing a place on the Irukandjis team to represent Australia at the ISA World Junior Championships.

With world-class waves on offer and plenty of competition ahead, we can’t wait to see Cruz take on the best in the country.
