Leah-May selected in WA Under 16 State Gold Team

Geraldton’s hockey community is celebrating exciting news, with Leah-May earning selection in the WA Under 16 State Gold Team set to compete at the national championships in April.

After an intensive trial process held across three weekends in December and the final week of January, the official squad announcement was made in the first week of February 2026. The selection process brought together talented athletes from across Western Australia, all vying for a place in the state lineup.

Leah-May’s selection is a testament to her dedication, consistency, and work ethic throughout the demanding trial period. Competing against some of the state’s strongest young players, she demonstrated not only her skill but also her composure and team-first mindset.

She is one of four players from Geraldton chosen to represent Western Australia, a significant achievement for regional hockey and a reflection of the strength of talent emerging from the Mid West.

The team will travel to Hobart, Tasmania to compete in the U16 National Championships from 14–21 April 2026. The tournament, hosted in Hobart, will see Western Australia face the country’s top junior teams in a week-long competition that showcases Australia’s most promising young hockey players.

For Leah-May and her family, the selection represents the reward for years of commitment. Early mornings, long training sessions, and travel commitments between Geraldton and Perth, all balanced alongside school and other responsibilities.

Her achievement is not only a personal milestone but also an inspiration for young athletes across Geraldton who aspire to represent their state.
